From Diyas To Inner Glow : Illuminate Your Life This Diwali
How happy are you this Diwali ? Does the festive season fill you with happiness all around ? It is supposed to usher positive energy by symbolising the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and good over evil. But do we really welcome the positive energy wholesomely ?
While cleaning our home, we remove needless items and decorate the entrance with rangoli. Why don’t we clean our mind of harmful and negative thoughts which accumulated over time ? Let us identify worries, bad memories, criticism, doubt, jealousy, poor habits which sneaked in. Delete them; replace them with hope, humour, joy, and peace. Not easy. Not impossible either. Point is, don’t just pay attention to your doorstep, also be mindful of the thoughts entering you. Change the way you think. A beautiful rangoli represents a welcoming house..And a beautiful thought, a peaceful mind.
This Diwali, let us leave no dirty corner/nook. No old unwanted items at home. Likewise, let us not dwell upon unpleasant thoughts or incidents. Quit anger and remorse – because it is not worth our time. Choose to ignore and smile.
Diwali is the occasion to close old accounts and open new ones. Time to give a thought to making every action count in our spiritual rulebook. Listen to someone patiently ? Help someone without expectation ? Stop counting others’ mistakes and count ours instead ? The positive vibes could surprise us.
We light diyas in different forms and shapes each year to illuminate our house. Brightness fills the home. Shall we flick the living divine light within us this time ? Let us become tiny sources of love, peace, purity and truth – and watch our surroundings glow. Make it infectious.
While kids make miniature forts, let us encourage them to experience the grandeur of the personality of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and the sacrifice of thousands of his warriors in the quest of Swarajya. May each shred they add to the model remind them of the stories behind the stones in the real edifice constructed centuries ago.
A row of diyas forms a glittering sequence – a deepmala. Is it possible to string together a chain of beautiful relations ? Pick up the phone to call someone and try to mend a broken chain ? Just as one lamp lights another, a loving soul can inspire others.
This Diwali, let us begin to improve. Accept good changes, even if it is difficult. It will light the path for our family to follow – a path of happiness and safety. Let us fuel this lamp with determination and persistence. Let us choose our words with care – so that the divinity within us keeps gleaming.
Let us use this light to brighten someone’s path. Do what we can to lessen their trouble. There is no satisfaction bigger than making someone smile. Remember joy multiplies when shared.
