17 Dead, over 100 missing after heavy rain in Andhra Pradesh

17 individuals have been reported dead, and more than 100 people have been washed away in floods, following the incessant rains happening in Andhra Pradesh. Visuals from the temple town of Tirupati show100s of pilgrims trapped in the massive floods.

Ghat road and walkways to the Tirumala Hills which houses the temple have now been closed. The Swarnamukhi river on outskirts of Tirupati is flooded and reservoirs too, are overflowing. Many have been reported to be stuck in the floods. 3 state transport buses have been marooned, and 12 couldn’t be saved.

The national and state disaster relief teams have been deployed to handle the situation and rescue operations are happening in full swing. Floods have damaged roads at many places and rail, road and air traffic have been hit.

Rayalaseema region is the worst affected one. Chittoor, Kadapa, Kurnool and Anantpur districts in the state are also affected.

Rains haven’t stopped since Thursday, and the Cheyyuru river is overflowing. The Kadapa airport will be closed till November 25.
