The year 2021 is approaching in not more than 3 days. And we are already in the ‘Kick start your new year’ zone. Where we have so many goals for ourselves. We might want to read more books or lose a few KGs or something else. But make sure that being independent must be one of your important goals for this year. And if it is congratulations…! You are already walking on your path of independent life.
So if you are a student and still living with your parents, how can you be more independent?
1. Start taking responsibility of your stuff: Many times when we live with our family we don’t realise that the smallest things like taking care of your own stuff, organizing cupboard, organizing our school/college bag, washing our clothes are taken care of, by our mommy dearest or maybe house help or someone else but not us. So from this year make sure that you take responsibility for your own stuff. Like washing your own clothes, organizing your wardrobe, cleaning your room or filling petrol in your vehicle or your internet recharge, Take care of your things, this is the first step of learning how to become an independent person.
2. Learn one dish to cook: So if you are someone who is looking forward to going abroad for studies or leave your hometown for your career then this one can help you to lead your independent life. Learn one dish to cook, it can be as simple as Roti Sabzi or it can be your favourite Pav Bhaji, Pani Poori or chhole, anything and everything can come under that one dish. Cooking is a skill that is beyond gender. It is a life skill that will help you to survive in the worst conditions. Think about them who were stuck in lockdown alone, without knowing any cooking skills, it must have been horrible right? So cooking can save you.
3. Start a side hustle: It is super super important to be financially independent. There are so many opportunities nowadays for students. They can start their online businesses with the minimum skills that they have. It can be anything like social media management skills, or communications skills, teaching skills, art, painting, dance, anything. Just start your side hustle and start earning. Doesn't matter even if it is a small amount what makes you independent is the feeling of responsibility that you will get with it. Also, it will help you to start saving in your early 20’s which will benefit you in your late 60’s trust me it is that important. So Start brushing your hobbies and convert it into a side hustle.
4. Learn Driving: Driving is a skill that will help you in your long run. It can be driving a car or at least learn how to ride a two-wheeler. When you have your own vehicle with you, you are not dependent on anyone for your small tasks, or to go here and there. Driving or riding will make you independent in a way that you can take care of all your meetings, colleges, classes and other stuff. Also, it is super fun.
So if you are someone who doesn't know all these skills, then don’t worry you can start learning them now as well. As I said 2021 is your year. Learn these skills and start building an independent life. Trust me you will thank me later…!
