Ajay Devgn’s hundredth film ‘Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior’ will star wife Kajol in a Marathi avatar. The period drama is based on the life of the historical character Tanhaji played by Devgn and Kajol will be playing his wife Savitribai. The actress shared a poster of her look in the film on social media which received a lot of comments from the audience as well as the film fraternity. In the poster, Kajol looks intense wearing a red sari, a Maharashtrian ‘nath’, ‘mangalsutra’ and ‘bindi’.
However, this is not the first time a Bollywood actress has adorned herself with a Maharashtrian look. Popular actresses like Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan have all been seen in similar versions of the Maharashtrian look. Aishwarya was seen in a stunning Maharashtrian ensemble in the 2002 song ‘Ishq Kamina’ from the film Shakti. Katrina’s hit item number Chikni Chameli from Hrithik Roshan’s Agneepath was in a Koli attire with her performing a few steps of Lavani as well. The same film also saw Priyanka Chopra as a Maharashtrian girl. Priyanka was also seen in this appearance in Shahid Kapoor starrer Kaminey. The Marathi Mulgi look quite suits her.
Kareena Kapoor Khan was seen in a typical Marathi aspect in Singham Returns for which she not only learnt the accent but also a few slangs in the language and their specific way to grind spices for a scene. Asin played the role of a rich spoilt uproarious sister of a Marathi Bhau in Khiladi 786. In Aashiqui 2, Shraddha Kapoor also essayed the role of a Marathi Mulgi. Vidhya Balan’s item number in Ferrari Ki Sawaari ‘Mala Jau De’ saw her in every bit of the Maharashtrian aspect. Madhuri is still our favourite Marathi Mulgi and her "Humko aaj kal hai" look is still dream look for many. Apart from them Rani mukharjee, Genelia D'suza, Urmila Matondkar and many more killed everyone by their Marathi Mulgi look.
Kajol will be seen in this look for the first time when the film will release in 2020. Fans are waiting to see the actress in a completely different avatar in this historical drama.
