Samay Raina And The Rollercoaster Called India's Got Latent

Samay Raina is one of the biggest names to come out of Indian internet comedy in the last few years.

Born in Jammu he started out doing stand up sets and chess streams before turning into one of the most recognisable faces in the countrys online comedy scene.

He first found wider fame as a co winner of Comicstaan 2 back in 2019 but the show that truly changed everything for him was India's Got Latent.

 

India's Got Latent launched in June 2024 on YouTube and it was unlike anything Indian audiences had really seen before.

The format borrowed from Got Talent and Kill Tony where contestants come on stage and show off strange niche or downright bizarre talents.

After each performance the judges score the act and the twist is that contestants have to guess their own score first.

If their guess matches the judges average they win a cash prize.

The show was filmed at The Habitat in Mumbai and built a cult following fast thanks to its dark humour brutally honest roasts and a rotating judge panel that included names like Tanmay Bhat Kunal Kamra and Rohan Joshi.

Clips from the show spread everywhere turning random contestants into overnight internet personalities and giving the show a reputation for being unpredictable and completely unfiltered.

The Controversy That Shut It Down

During an episode podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia made an obscene remark that sparked massive backlash across the country.

Within days Samay pulled the plug on the show entirely and made every single episode private on YouTube.

The fallout didnt stop there.

Maharashtra Cyber Cell got involved and multiple cases were registered against those connected to the episode including Raina Allahbadia Ashish Chanchlani and Apoorva Makhija.

Samay was summoned to record his statement but was abroad at the time and asked to appear over video call which was denied.

He eventually returned and cooperated with the investigation while the show sat in limbo for months with no clear sign of a comeback.

The Comeback Nobody Saw Coming

Instead of disappearing Samay used the downtime to rebuild his image through stand up.

In August 2025 he launched a nationwide tour called Still Alive And Unfiltered which was widely seen as his way of addressing the controversy head on and reconnecting with his audience.

The tour ran from Bengaluru all the way to Delhi and later expanded internationally.

In 2026 he became one of the youngest Indian comedians to ever perform at Madison Square Garden closing out the global leg of his tour there.

In March 2026 he dropped his debut comedy special called Still Alive on YouTube after nearly a year away from uploading and it went on to become the most viewed stand up special on the platform.

In that special he even revealed that Allahbadia had asked the same controversial question multiple times during the original taping but only one instance made it into the final edited episode which added a whole new layer to how people understood the original controversy.

India's Got Latent Returns

The real plot twist came in June 2026 when Netflix and Samay Raina jointly announced that India's Got Latent was coming back for a second season.

This time it wasnt just a YouTube show anymore.

The new season launched as a simulcast releasing episodes on both Netflix and YouTube at the same time which was a first of its kind move for an Indian creator led show.

Season two premiered on June 20 2026 with new episodes dropping every two weeks and it brought back the same chaotic energy fans missed alongside panelists like Balraj Singh Ghai.

The Netflix partnership also came with an added bonus of an entirely new comedy special from Samay currently in development which shows just how much trust the platform has placed back in him.
