Arpit Bala: How a Faridabad Law Grad Became Gen Z India's Favourite Menace

 

 

There are creators you follow and there are creators who feel like that one unhinged friend in your group chat. Arpit Bala is firmly the second kind. Rapper, streamer, sketch comedian, part time philosopher, full time chaos merchant... he's built one of the most loyal Gen Z fanbases in the country without ever playing by the influencer rulebook.

 

 

 

His real name is Arpit Balabantaray. Born 20 May 1999 in Ranchi to an Odia family, raised in Faridabad, Haryana. His dad's an oncologist, which makes the career pivot even funnier when you think about it. He went to Delhi Public School Faridabad where, in a genuinely wild coincidence, he was classmates with Ajey Nagar... yes, CarryMinati. The two were friends and even made content together back in the mid 2010s, long before either of them blew up. Then came the plot twist nobody saw coming. Arpit went off to Jindal Global Law School in Sonipat and actually finished his B.A. LL.B. He paused content creation to study law. Imagine grinding through case briefs knowing full well you're about to become the internet's problem.

He started his channel in 2018, posting comedy sketches and relatable bits. First sketch dropped in July 2018. The early stuff was decent but nothing explosive... the real shift happened during the COVID lockdown, when he came back to content properly and started experimenting. What separated Arpit from every other sketch guy was the streams. His YouTube live sessions became legendary for one simple reason: the man says whatever he's thinking, zero filter, complete deadpan. Clips from those streams got chopped up and reposted endlessly on Instagram Reels, and that clip economy basically built his fanbase for him. His absurdist humour was tailor made for the reel format... thirty seconds of Arpit being casually unhinged travels further than any produced sketch ever could. By 2026 his main channel crossed roughly 1.15 million subscribers with over 61 million total views. He also runs a podcast called GrandMasti, launched in late 2021, because obviously he does.

 

Here's where it gets interesting. Arpit isn't just a funny guy who raps as a bit. He's a legitimate part of the Desi Hip Hop conversation. Along with his childhood friend Bhappa, he formed Foosie Gang, a collective that started as a light hearted outlet for their humour and their reflections on growing up. His rap debut came in January 2021 with Sector 28, which has since
crossed several million views. Then came Maharani. The 2021 track with Karun, ReVo Lekhak and Lambo Drive became a genuine viral moment in the DHH scene, eventually racking up over 72 million plays. Suddenly the streamer guy was on everyone's playlist. Tracks like Ik Kudi, Gulabo and Bandar (with SangeetKir) followed, and he kept collaborating across the New Delhi scene, including with Chaar Diwaari on Kya. In 2024 he dropped PLAYER NO. 1 (Deluxe), his proper album statement. 2025 brought Bargad, which pushed him to another level of fame, plus more releases including the Keychain Laalu project and even a Free Fire collab track with Total Gaming. The man does not stop. What makes his music work is the same thing that makes his streams work... it sounds like him. Street humour, local slang, real feelings buried under jokes, and a refusal to sound like anyone else in the scene. He went from satirical tracks to genuinely respected hip hop projects without losing the plot.

 

Though A few reasons, and they stack.

 

The authenticity thing is real. Gen Z has a finely tuned radar for creators who are performing relatability versus creators who just are like that. Arpit is the second one. His fans describe him as funny, flawed and fearless... he sounds like one of them because he basically is.

 

The clip machine. His stream moments are endlessly reposted, quoted and memed. He became famous the most 2020s way possible: not through one viral video but through a thousand fifteen second fragments.

 

The double threat. Comedy creators who make music usually make joke music. Arpit crossed over into actual DHH credibility, which meant two separate audiences... internet culture kids and hip hop heads... both claimed him.

 

The network. Friendships and collabs with CarryMinati, work with Triggered Insaan, features across the Delhi rap scene. He's connected to basically every corner of Indian internet culture.

 

 

It hasn't all been clean. His unfiltered persona cuts both ways.

 

In 2024 he was reportedly involved in a physical altercation at a club in Koramangala, Bengaluru. And in March 2026, at a Hyderabad show at Kingdome Klub and Kitchen, someone in the crowd threw a bottle at him mid performance. Arpit stopped the show, threw the bottle back, spat toward the person, had security remove them, and gave the crowd a very Arpit warning before continuing. The videos went everywhere within hours and split the internet... some said fair reaction to being assaulted on stage, others said the response crossed a line. For better or worse, the controversies haven't dented him much. If anything they reinforce the brand: this is not a media trained, PR managed creator. What you see is genuinely what you get. Arpit Bala matters because he represents a specific shift in Indian internet fame. The older generation of creators built careers on polished sketches and family friendly appeal. Arpit built his on being completely, sometimes uncomfortably himself... and letting the internet do the distribution. Law degree in the drawer, oncologist dad presumably still processing it, and a million plus people tuning in to watch him think out loud. As of 2026 he's simultaneously one of India's most followed digital creators and one of its most interesting underground rappers, still keeping his personal life private, still releasing at a ridiculous pace, still refusing to pick a lane.
