Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah के “Dimagi Naxal” remark ने October 2026 के आख़िरी हफ़्ते में political और film-industry debate को तेज़ कर दिया। Shah ने Facebook पर share किए गए एक video में Jamia Millia Islamia के protesting students को support किया और कहा कि वह ख़ुद को “proudly Dimagi Naxal” declare करते हैं। उनका कहना था कि असहमति दर्शाने वालों को “anti-national” और “tukde-tukde gang” जैसे labels दिए जाते हैं।
Shah ने क्या कहा और controversy क्यों हुई?
28 October को share किए गए Facebook video में Shah ने कहा कि वह ख़ुद को “Dimagi Naxal” proudly declare करते हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि मतभेद करने वालों को “anti-national” और “tukde-tukde gang” जैसे labels दिए जाते हैं। इसके बाद उन्होंने Centre पर युवाओं का morale तोड़ने, educational institutions को weaken करने और democracy को risk में डालने का आरोप लगाया।
Shah ने Jamia students के student-union elections restore करने की demand का support किया। Jamia में student-union elections 2006 के बाद से नहीं हुए हैं और protesters fixed election schedule तथा constitution approval की clear timeline मांग रहे हैं। यह एक genuine student issue है। लेकिन student issue को address करने के बजाय पूरा focus अपने “Dimagi Naxal” label और government की आलोचना पर ले जाना communication-wise questionable है।
उनका message supporters को bold और fearless लग सकता है। लेकिन critics के लिए यह एक shock-value strategy है. इसमें पहले provocative label अपनाओ, फिर उसी के आसपास पूरा political narrative build करो। इससे actual student demands पीछे छूट सकती हैं।
Bollywood कलाकारों ने क्या कहा???
Annu Kapoor:
Actor Annu Kapoor ने Shah के political judgement पर सवाल उठाया। ANI से बात करते हुए उन्होंने कहा कि Shah dialogue delivery में अच्छे हो सकते हैं, लेकिन उन्हें doubt है कि वह country के interests और welfare के बारे में कितना genuinely सोचते हैं। साथ ही Kapoor ने यह भी माना कि democracy ही लोगों को freely बोलने और protest करने का right देती है।
Kapoor का point Gen-Z language में काफ़ी clear है: mic लेकर बोलने का right सबके पास है, लेकिन इससे हर statement automatically सही नहीं हो जाता। Freedom of speech का मतलब freedom from criticism नहीं है। Shah government को question कर सकते हैं, तो public भी उनसे सवाल कर सकती है।
Puneet Issar
Actor Puneet Issar ने Shah को senior, teacher और outstanding actor बताया, लेकिन उनके political statements को selective कहा। Issar के मुताबिक, Shah कुछ मुद्दों पर बहुत vocal होते हैं, जबकि दूसरे national और global issues पर silent रहते हैं।
यह criticism इसलिए important है क्योंकि Shah का पूरा argument “मैं सत्ता से सवाल कर रहा हूँ” पर टिका है। लेकिन अगर सवाल हमेशा सिर्फ़ एक side से हों, तो audience उसे principled dissent की जगह selective outrage समझ सकती है। Issar ने यह भी कहा कि Shah को government criticize करने का right है, लेकिन अगर वह government बदलना चाहते हैं, तो election contest करके democratic route अपना सकते हैं।
Gajendra Chauhan:
Actor Gajendra Chauhan, जो Mahabharat में Yudhishthira के role के लिए जाने जाते हैं, ने Shah को election contest करने का challenge दिया। वृत्त के अनुसार, Chauhan ने कहा कि अगर Shah government का विरोध करना चाहते हैं, तो election लड़ें। उन्होंने यह भी कहा कि वह BJP worker के रूप में उनके ख़िलाफ़ contest करने के लिए party ticket मांगेंगे।
Chauhan का response भी political है, लेकिन इसमें एक practical सवाल छिपा है: बाहर से commentary करना आसान है; real politics में उतरकर public mandate लेना कहीं ज़्यादा मुश्किल है।
Paresh Rawal
Actor Paresh Rawal ने इस controversy में comparatively balanced position ली। उन्होंने कहा कि Shah की अपनी opinion है और हर व्यक्ति को अपने views express करने का right है। Report के मुताबिक, Rawal ने Shah के लिए personal respect भी जताया।
हालाकि Rawal ने Shah की government-related allegations को certify नहीं किया। उन्होंने सिर्फ़ यह कहा कि opinion रखने का right सबके पास है।
Ashoke Pandit
Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit ने Shah की language और public conduct पर harsh criticism किया। वृत्त के अनुसार, Pandit ने Shah पर abusive language इस्तेमाल करने का आरोप लगाया और उन्हें psychiatric help लेने की सलाह तक दी।
क्या Shah को film industry से support मिला?

Bold होना और सही होना अलग बातें हैं
Naseeruddin Shah का protest और government criticism करना उनका democratic right है। लेकिन “मैं proudly Dimagi Naxal हूँ” जैसी line debate को unnecessarily theatrical बनाती है। अगर goal Jamia students की demands को highlight करना था, तो focus student elections, institutional accountability और protest rights पर रहना चाहिए था, न कि provocative label पर।
Shah जैसे respected actor की बात naturally ज़्यादा लोगों तक पहुँचती है। इसलिए उनसे language और evidence की responsibility भी ज़्यादा expect की जाएगी। Senior actor होना immunity card नहीं है। अगर वह government से accountability मांगते हैं, तो public भी उनके selective मुद्दों, aggressive tone और sweeping allegations पर accountability मांग सकती है।
