If you are an engineering student preparing for DSA (Data Structures and Algorithms), you already know the biggest lie we all tell ourselves: “I’ll definitely start studying tomorrow.”

We all begin our B.Tech journey with an insane amount of energy. We hear the golden letters—DSA (Data Structures and Algorithms)—and we promise ourselves we’ll master it to grab those dream placements. We buy the courses, bookmark the playlists, and swear we are going to be the next coding prodigy. But then, reality hits, the initial motivation fades, and we start giving up.

If you are reading this, I hope you can relate to my story, because today was a turning point for me.

My day started like any other average, uninspiring day. I finished my classes at my college (VIT Kondhwa, where I am studying Data Science), came back to my hostel room, and threw my bag on the bed, ready to sink into my usual cycle of guilt. But fate had a slightly different script written for me today. A friend and a senior from my branch were heading to the VIT Bibwewadi campus to attend a guest session. At the absolute last minute, I got the chance to tag along. I didn't know it then, but saying "yes" to that ride was exactly what I needed.

When we reached the auditorium and found out who the guest speaker was, my mind was genuinely blown. It was none other than Love Babbar sir—or as most of us call him, Love Babbar bhaiya. If you are aiming for tech placements, you know exactly how monumental his videos are for our preparation.

Sitting in that hall, listening to him speak, felt like someone had handed me a mirror, and I didn't like what I saw. Let me be brutally honest with you guys. I am currently in the last two weeks of my 3rd semester. At the start of this semester, I had hyped myself up, thinking, "This is it. I’m going to conquer DSA and make my skills top-notch."

And guess what? I haven't moved past Arrays.

I haven't even really started studying properly. Every single day was the same toxic loop: “I’ll start today. Okay, no, I’m tired, I’ll definitely start tomorrow.” And that tomorrow never came. The guilt was eating me alive. There were days I just sat alone in my hostel room, genuinely wanting to cry out of sheer frustration and helplessness. I felt completely broken from the inside. But as a guy, and especially as an older son, there’s this unspoken, suffocating pressure. You feel like you can’t just break down or cry in front of your dad. And what face would I show my younger brother? How could I tell them that I was failing at the one thing I was sent here to do?

I had actually planned to finally sit down and study yesterday, but I failed to do even that. I felt like a lost cause.

Then, I heard Love Babbar bhaiya’s story. Hearing him speak was the ultimate wake-up call. Here is a guy who came from a Tier-3 college in Delhi University. A guy who didn’t even know what DSA was until the end of his second year. He didn’t even own a laptop until his second year! He was just a regular student who thought printing a basic star pattern meant he knew how to program. Yet, that same guy worked relentlessly, went on to crack tech giants like Amazon and Microsoft, and then built an incredibly inspiring YouTube journey to help millions of us.

Listening to his journey, a heavy but comforting realization hit me: Bro Sahil, you still have time.

I did the math in my head. There are still almost three months before my 4th semester officially kicks into high gear. If I start right now, stop making excuses, and stay consistent, taking DSA from basic to advanced over the next 9 months is a very realistic and solid plan. Nine months is a brilliant amount of time. I am not late; I was just paralyzed by the fear of being left behind.

This is mainly why I am writing this article today. I know there are so many of you out there who feel exactly like I did this morning. You might be stuck in DSA, struggling with Web Development, or feeling totally lost in AI/ML. You might be sitting in your room thinking your time is up and the race is already lost.

Listen to me carefully: You still have enough time. Get to work.

Stop beating yourself up over the time you’ve wasted and start aggressively using the time you have left. Dive into it completely. Give it your absolute 100 percent. Honestly, whether you get selected for a dream company or not is a secondary thing. But when the placement season finally arrives, you should never have to look back and say, "I wish I had tried harder."

If you can look yourself in the mirror at the end of the day, with pure honesty, and say, "Yes, I worked incredibly hard today without lying to myself," you can never truly fail. A person who works with that level of genuine dedication will always win in life, one way or another.

There is so much more I want to say about the energy of today's session, but I can't possibly fit all my racing thoughts into just one article. I just hope that if you are reading this from your hostel bed, feeling as stuck and defeated as I was, this gives you the push you need.
