From Rs 30000 a Month to Armani Runways The Shubham Vaidkar Story.

Every Indian family has that one uncle who says the same thing at every function. Beta engineering kar lo. Naukri pakki. Life set. Most of us nod and move on because honestly what else can we do. But once in a while someone walks the safe road almost to the end and then calmly steps off it. Shubham Vaidkar is one of those people. You may have seen his name on your feed. A Mumbai boy who went from a civil engineering job to walking for Armani in Milan. I am 23 myself so this story hit me in a very particular way. He was born and raised in Mumbai and completed a degree in civil engineering. Nothing unusual so far because lakhs of us follow the same script. But in his second year he started exploring modelling as a hobby. Notice that word hobby. He did not drop out or fight with his parents or make some dramatic exit. He was just curious and he followed that curiosity. His journey began with an agency called AnonModels and he is now signed with Anima Creatives.
Here is the part that makes this story feel real to me. His career did not shoot straight up. After his first trips abroad he came back to India and worked as a civil engineer earning Rs 30000 a month. Think about that for a second. He had already tasted the fashion world in Europe and still returned to a regular salary in Mumbai. Anyone who has come back from a great trip to a Monday morning job knows that feeling. Still he kept going. After finishing his academic exams in June 2024 he spent two months travelling around Europe including Milan and Paris. That stretch seems to have mattered a lot. It is easy to look at a viral post and assume the whole thing was overnight luck but this looks more like a slow build with a stable job waiting for him back home the whole time.
Then came the Armani moment. His social media post set his current life as a runway model for Giorgio Armani at Milan Fashion Week against his old life as a civil engineer in India and people stopped scrolling. It struck a nerve because it said something many of us secretly wonder. What if the job we think is our only option is just the first option. And let us be honest about why the story went viral. The numbers reported in the media are wild. A runway show in Milan can pay between 1500 and 2000 euros. Campaigns can pay 5000 to 6000 euros a day depending on the project which comes to over Rs 5 lakh for a single day of work. For many Indian families that is more than a few months of salary. A small reality check though. These are reported ballpark figures and not guaranteed pay cheques. Modelling work is not steady like a nine to five and some days pay big while others pay nothing.
What I respect most is that he does not pretend it is easy. He stresses that modelling is not just glitz and glamour and his career has been built on hard work and discipline. Behind every runway photo there is probably a lot of travel and waiting and rejection and routines nobody posts about. He also stays connected to his childhood friends in Mumbai who mostly see only the glamorous side of his work and I find that lovely. I do not think the lesson here is to quit your job and become a model. Most of us will not walk for Armani and that is completely fine. The real lesson is smaller and more useful. Shubham took his curiosity seriously. He started it as a side thing in college and kept showing up even when a Rs 30000 salary was waiting. At 23 most of us feel pressure to have everything figured out. His story says you can hold a degree and still try something that looks nothing like it. Maybe you just need one honest experiment on the side and then you see where it goes.
