Taliban Appoints Ex Guantanamo Detainee as New Defence Minister

The Taliban have selected loyal and senior veterans for the posts of Finance Minister and Defence minister, group members said. The group’s focus is now being shifted from the military conquest of this land-locked nation.
  
The Taliban are now switching their focus on how to run a country in crisis. Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, who is the co-founder and deputy leader of Taliban, is highly likely to become the next president of Afghanistan.
  
The Taliban have selected loyal and senior veterans for the posts of Finance Minister and Defence minister, group members said. The group’s focus is now being shifted from the military conquest of this land-locked nation. The ministerial choices haven’t been decided as of now, said the Taliban leader.
  
Their New Defence Minister Mullah Abdul Qayyum Zakir, who used to be a detainee at the United States prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
  
Their new Finance Minister now is Gul Agha, who is on lists of international sanctions for acting as the financial chief of Taliban. The Interior Minister is Sadr Ibrahim. Sadr is believed to be a powerful and trusted figure within the terror group.
 
The spokesperson of the terror group is Zabihullah Mujahid, and looks over the massive information wing. He took Ashraf Ghani’s place (who was killed), who was the government spokesperson earlier. Mujahid said that Ghani had been killed in an arranged “special attack” which the Taliban carried out.
 
Haji Mohammad Idris has been appointed as the Acting Head of the central bank. Idris had long experience working on issues concerning finance with the previous leader - Mullah Akhtar Mansour (who was killed in 2016 in a drone strike), in the northern province of Jawzjan.
 
These appointments are being made less than a fortnight Taliban took control over all the government forces, parliament and presidential palace.
 
The Taliban added that the Governors of provinces will be selected from only amongst some of the most experienced members.
