Endangered Fishing Cat Caught on Camera in MP’s Tiger Reserve

The evidence of the cat was also seen earlier near the Ken River, covering a 55-km stretch within the PTR, but it was captured on camera for the first time just recently in the reserve.
  
Fishing cat is one of the most endangered animals in our country, and it has been spotted in Panna Tiger Reserve or PTR in Madhya Pradesh, said the state government on Wednesday.
 
An official release by the government said that in one of the cameras installed in the tiger reserve, they were able to capture the fishing cat.
 
The evidence of the cat was also seen earlier near the Ken River, covering a 55-km stretch within the PTR, but it was captured on camera for the first time just recently in the reserve, the release said.
  
This species of cat is highly endangered and on the verge of extinction., The cat mostly feeds on fish, hence the name, it also added.
  
The release said that the hunting of fishing cats is prohibited as per the Schedule-1 of Indian Wildlife Protection Act 1972.
  
The biologists who are interested in researching and studying of the fishing cat are welcome to come and study at the PTR, the release added.
