45 elephants & 204 people lost lives in Years of Conflict

Forest Department Mohammad Akbar said that besides the 204 people losing lives, 97 more suffered from injuries from elephant attacks in the past 3 years.
In Chhattisgarh, 45 elephants and 204 people were killed in attacks across the state between 2018 & 2020, the government said in a reply to a question asked in the legislative assembly held on Monday.
In the 45 elephants who died, 18 of the incidents took place in 2020. In 2018 and 2019, there were 11 and 16 deaths respectively.
The most number of deaths due to these were reported from the Northern regions of the state. The northern region of the state, reside around 240 wild elephants which roam the forests of Surguja and surrounding areas, hence triggering the human-elephant conflicts that have taken place here. In the past 10 years, the state has seen an increase in the population of wildlife, mostly in elephants, who have rose from being 225 in numbers to 290, says the forest department.
