Assam Doctor detected with 2 Covid Variants

Inspite being fully vaccinated, an Assam doctor got infected with both the variants, Alpha and Delta, just a month after getting her second dose. She did have mild symptoms but recovered without needing hospitalization.
A female doctor in Assam was infected with two different variants of Covid-19 at the same time, test at the regional medical center (RMRC) in Dinbrugarh of Indian Council for Medical Research has shown. The RMRC lab found the double infection in the doctor early in the month of May. Her husband who is also a doctor was infected with the Alpha variant of Covid.
Inspite getting fully vaccinated, an Assam doctor got infected with both the variants, Alpha and Delta, just a month after getting her second dose. She did have mild symptoms but recovered without needing hospitalization. Dr. B J Borkakoty, a senior scientist at RMRC said, “A double infection happens when two variants infect one person simultaneously or within a very short period of time. It occurs when someone gets infected with one variant, but gets re-infected with another variant within 2-3 days of the first infection and before antibodies could develop.”
He also added that during the initial phases of the second wave in Assam in February & March were the Alpha variant. In April, post the assembly elections, is when the cases of the Delta variants started being detected.
