AstraZeneca Plc's Covid-19 vaccine is highly effective against the extremely contagious Delta Covid-19 variant which was first identified in India.

Quoting a study, the Covid-19 vaccine of AstraZeneca Plc is effective against the variants of Delta & Kappa, which were first identified in India, said the company on Tuesday.

The statement said that the study conducted by the Oxford University investigated the ability of the monoclonal antibodies in blood from recovered patients and also from those who have been vaccinated to neutralize the Delta & Kappa variants.

An analysis by the Public Health England or PHE showed that, last week that vaccines made by Pfizer Inc and AstraZeneca offer high protection (around 90% more than that from hospitalization) by this Delta variant. The company said that the most recent Oxford study results are built on the latest analysis done by PHE.

On Friday, the World Health Organization's Chief scientist said that the Delta variant is becoming the dominant version of the disease globally.

The WHO official also said that in the coming future, a "constellation of mutations" may come to be, which means that these current vaccines are highly likely to lose their effectiveness against battling the Corona virus.
