Real-time Covid-19 testing kit of Cipla, 'ViraGen' is to be sold starting today

The Covid-19 detection kit is now approved by ICMR that is, the Indian Council of Medical Research. It’s using multiplex PCR technology.
 
The pharmaceutical company Cipla, launched a real-time Corona virus testing kit last week & it will be available in the market from Tuesday. This RT-PCR test kit is known as 'ViraGen' and is manufactured by the drug major in partnership with Ubio Biotechnology Systems.
 
The Covid-19 detection kit is approved by the ICMR that is the Indian Council of Medical Research. It’s using multiplex PCR technology. The website of BioSpectrum Magazine says that "It helps to detect SARS CoV-2 N Gene and ORF Lab Gene with the sensitivity of 98.6% and the specificity of 98.8% as compared to a standard ICMR test.”
According to the firm - This test is designed for qualitative detection of nucleic acid from SARS-CoV-2 in the upper & lower respiratory specimens from individuals suspected of Covid.
 
The CEO of Cipla, Umang Vohra said this it’s partnership with Ubio Biotechnology Systems will help reach maximum amount of people. His words were, “Cipla has been working relentlessly to ensure accessibility to treatments in this fight against Covid-19. Guided by our core purpose of 'caring for life', this partnership will enable us to reach out to more people across the country at a crucial time like now”.
 
ViraGen being Cipla's 3rd Covid testing kit, has partnerships for antibody detection kits and antigen test kits already. In December 2020, it launched ‘CIPtest’ rapid antigen test. It had also launched 'Elifast: SARS CoV-2 IgG ELISA' test kit.
