When most people get bored, they just sit there and don’t know what to do. They mostly choose to turn on Netflix or scroll through their phone. This goes on for hours. But what if I told you that there are lots of simple, productive things to do when bored instead of those? You’ll start feeling motivated again, and you wouldn’t have wasted hours of your life. Do Quick Tasks - Even though you probably do not have the energy to perform a big task, you might have just enough left to do a smaller one. Make sure to check off items in your to-do list that can be gotten done with quickly, like making that doctor’s appointment, sending an email, or writing up that memo you’ve been procrastinating doing for a while.

Try Doing Something New - If you take some time to find out an activity you have never tried, you’ll be learning more about cultural differences around & yourself. Such activities can turn out to be very productive. When you cannot get out of the house, like we can’t in these times, watch a documentary about other cultures and places. This will open your mind to new things and offer you a different perspective on the world.

Listen to a Podcast – It is still surprising to me how many people have never listened to a podcast before. Podcasts were invented & popularized by Apple when the early iPod music players were released. It has since then increased into an industry on its own, where major publishers & entertainers having and hosting their own podcasts. A podcast is essentially like listening to a radio broadcast show, but minus the music. I make sure to listen to podcasts regularly as they provide you with a lot of knowledge and don’t increase your screen time.

Brainstorm ideas - People like Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos have made it a habit to devote a part of their spare time to thinking up new ideas. They brainstorm. You can use your downtime by thinking up new ideas related to business, investing, etc. A good way to start brainstorming is to read widely about the subject you’re brainstorm about. Keep with you a notebook, a computer, or your phone with you to note your ideas down. A great use for brainstorming is to come up with new business plans and product/service ideas.

Do Daily Puzzles – A great way to get the mind working is solving puzzles. It has a range of benefits like improved memory, better problem-solving skills and increased IQ, etc. This sort of brain training can be seen in many forms like jigsaws, Sudoku, crosswords which can be easily found on the internet. Set apart 30 minutes daily to try to solve a puzzle. You don’t even have to complete them, just set a designated time and then aim to complete the puzzle in the allocated time. It will surely make a huge difference in yourself.
