Being more productive requires managing your time along with your habits. To use your time and your energy more efficiently throughout the day you have to learn to resist some common habits that kill productivity. These are pretty simple & require little effort. You just have to think ahead and your productivity will increase a lot. Here are a few things to avoid if you want to be more productive in your daily life:

Not Planning - Imagine trying to get to an unfamiliar destination by a certain time but - without a map. Without having a big picture view, finding the fastest & most efficient route between your starting point and final destination would be very difficult. A clear plan acts just like map for your day. Setting a plan for your tasks & projects in advance is an important technique for managing your time, achieving the goals, and completing asks you’ve set out to finish. So, always plan your days the night before or the day of.

Multitasking - Multitasking is one of the biggest threats against productivity. Research shows that people who multitask experience a solid 40% drop in productivity & take 50% longer to accomplish a single task. They are known to make up to 50% more errors when compared with non-multitaskers. To make your day the most efficient - focus on only one task at a time. Try to resist the urge to switch between tasks by eliminating distractions and batching out similar tasks.

Distracting Elements - Living in the digital era makes it increasingly difficult to concentrate, and I still face this problem on a daily basis. But studies show - our attention is being drawn away by smart phones. According to Deloitte - Americans check their smart phones on average of almost 50 times a day. However, millennials check their phones over 150 times. You can reduce your distractions by silencing your social media & email notifications. Make time blocks to respond to emails & other alerts.

Always saying Yes – We can agree that time is probably our greatest commodity so - we have got to spend it wisely. You must learn to know when to say no. Saying yes to everyone and every task does lead to heavy exhaustion, more often than not. Hence, avoid scheduling unnecessary meetings or calls as much as possible.

Skipping Breakfast & Sleep - Not getting enough sleep is a sure path towards burnout / reduced performance. According to a study, after 17 to 19 hours without sleep, individuals will perform with the same / worse speed & accuracy as they would under the influence of alcohol. Rest is important for productivity.

And skipping breakfast may seem like an easy way to free up a block of your time; this practice causes more harm than good. Skipping the first meal of the day impacts your health & energy level, hence, your productivity. Prioritize eating a healthy breakfast to improve your concentration, mood & energy in your day.
