Human rights day _1

There are not a ton of days in the calendar which is so important for each of one of us on this planet that each one should and must pay heed to it. But December 10th, the Human Rights Day, is one such magnificent day. This day deserves more recognition because of its sheer importance. This day celebrates the basic rights of any human being on the planet, and reminds us to look around us and take notice of those who do not get to practice these rights and help them avail them. We must help put the policies in place and make our voice heard in this world. This is what Human Rights Day is all about.

Every year on the 10th of December, the whole world observes Human Rights Day. On this very day, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, i.e. the UDHR. This very document says the absolute unchallengeable rights permitted to a human being. These rights are set regardless of race, color, religion, sex, language or political opinion. This document is available in more than 500 languages and is the most translated work to ever exist.

Every year, there is a certain theme to this day which is celebrated. The theme for 2020 is Recover Better. This theme is in regards to Covid-19 and encourages focusing on building ourselves back better as Human Rights are core to recovery efforts. We can only reach our common goals if the opportunities out there are equal and non-biased to people, and to use the human rights standards to tackle entrenched, systematic, and intergenerational inequalities, exclusion and discrimination. This day gives the world as a whole, a chance to restate the significance of human rights in re-building the world as we want it, and the need for global unity and humanity, which is the very purpose of this glorious day.

So here is a little history about the Human Rights Day: It was first established in 1948, and since the day, it has been the major step towards ensuring the human rights of everyone globally. Nonetheless, this was formally adopted on 4th December 1950, during the 317th Plenary Meeting of the General Assembly. A fun fact about this is that this is the first document related to human rights which delineates the fundamental rights of every human being and that needs to be protected universally. This document has been drafted by different legal & cultural backgrounds from all over the globe, and says so on the official UN site.

One can celebrate this day firstly, by simply appreciating and acknowledging the efforts being shown to the less fortunate on a local level. Look around in your area and you will notice the phenomenal charitable doings of to help with the health and well-being of those not fortunate to fend for themselves. This had been one of the most challenging years in the whole decade, if not century. And this is speaking on a global level. You can lend a hand in this by volunteering for organizations that are working in the direction of the global purpose. Put together kits and boxes of necessities and distribute them amongst the needy & homeless. There are countless ways to help them out and be make conscious efforts towards humanity. Your minimal efforts can help change the quality of life on many levels.
